i have a new job now, in a place that looks to me like a different country. i have some pictures of it here.
after living on this beach for eight years i am going back east. snow and stuff, i wonder will i survive the change.

i have not cried a lot in my life. or at least, not a lot from the time i entered my adult years. that is, pretty much, all those years after communism.

on tuesday terese and anastasia left for butler and pittsburgh, pa. i am alone.
otissle su u utorak. sada sam sam. nisam bio sam godinama. i potpuno sam odvikao. spremio sam igraccke, nassao thomasa (lokomotivu). igraccaka samih, dan posla. maccka je nahranjena. riba pliva u novoj vodi. otvorio sam poklone (rodjendan, jun 30, 2005)

quite a long time ago, thirty years plus, i saw josip broz alive. if he was alive today, he would be 113. old chap. his funeral, which “all of us” then watched on state TV, is, i believe, the second largest funeral in televised history of the world.

on the day of Tito’s funeral, and it was May 1984, my dad came home early. he was supposed to watch it till the end, at work, like everybody else in the country, they got bonus points for that. being who he was – and hating the whole ‘mass’ feeling of it – Drago slipped away, he was about to get home and just live that may day. we were living the may day too, watching the funeral at livanjska 44, now brace begic 44. playing not-so-loud-music (“subtitling” the funeral, i suppose), drinking, having fun, popping pills, maybe even having some pot (pot was hard to find in those days). when my dad came home some of my friends had to jump from the balcony. out. out, he said.

Josip Broz lives here now. on the photo above he (nervously, should i say) checks the time. it seems that someone is late.
